Nebraska LPN License: Lookup, Renewal, CE, and Fees

Nebraska takes part in the Nurse Licensure Compact, which means an LPN whose primary state of residence is another compact state can typically hold a multistate license and practice in Nebraska without applying for a separate Nebraska license. A nurse must apply for a Nebraska license by endorsement if moving their primary residence to Nebraska or to a non-compact state, or if they are not eligible for a multistate license.

Applying by endorsement uses a form shared with RN applicants. It requires proof of citizenship or lawful presence, Nursys verification of the existing license, the $123 fee (or a waiver), and a $75 Nebraska State Patrol fingerprint background check. LPNs who graduated before May 1, 2016 must also document 8 hours of IV-therapy coursework. Nebraska offers a temporary permit, requires no separate state jurisprudence exam, and requires an English proficiency exam only for graduates of non-English-speaking programs.

Becoming licensed as an LPN in Nebraska requires graduating from a practical nursing program; the school sends an official transcript showing the degree and graduation date, and students may apply up to 90 days before their expected graduation. The board does not state a required program length. Candidates must also pass the NCLEX-PN exam, using an application form shared with RN candidates, and the board does not require a separate state jurisprudence exam.
