Indiana LPN License: Lookup, Renewal, CE, and Fees

Indiana is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact, effective July 1, 2020, which means an LPN who holds a multistate license from another compact state can practice in Indiana without applying for a new license. An LPN whose license is single-state, or who is licensed in a non-compact state, needs to apply through endorsement instead.

Endorsement runs through the MyLicense One portal for $50. Applicants need a criminal background check, education verification sent directly from their nursing program, and Nursys license verification from every state where they have held a license. Non-citizens must submit work-authorization documents. A temporary permit costs $10 for 90 days, extendable once for another 90 days, and a multistate license costs $25 if Indiana is the applicant's primary state of residence. The board does not mention a state law exam or English test.

To become licensed as an LPN in Indiana, a candidate must graduate from a board-approved practical nursing program, which sends an official Certificate of Completion directly to the board. Graduates trained outside the United States need a TruMerit (CGFNS) VisaScreen letter or a NACES credential evaluation. Every candidate must also register separately for the NCLEX-PN exam through Pearson VUE and NCSBN, at a cost of $200. The board's licensing page does not list a separate state jurisprudence exam.
