Mississippi LPN License: Lookup, Renewal, CE, and Fees

Mississippi participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact and has been a party state on the NCSBN's compact map since January 19, 2018. An LPN moving to Mississippi from another state applies for licensure by endorsement; the license issued is multistate, allowing practice in other compact states, only if Mississippi is the nurse's primary state of residence and the Uniform Licensure Requirements are met, otherwise the license is single-state, valid for Mississippi only.

To apply, an out-of-state LPN uses the online Nurse Gateway, pays a $60 endorsement fee plus a $75 fingerprint background check performed only by the Mississippi Board, and has the original licensing state verify the license through Nursys. Mississippi does not require a separate state law exam beyond the NCLEX-PN, and the profile does not mention an English proficiency test. A $25 temporary permit is available while the endorsement application is processed.

Mississippi requires graduation from a practical nursing program that meets educational criteria substantially equivalent to Mississippi's own programs, with an official transcript sent directly by the program. State law does not allow LPN licensure based on partial completion of an RN program. Candidates must pass the NCLEX-PN, with up to six attempts allowed within two years of graduation and one attempt permitted after that.
