Missouri CNA Skills Test: Every Skill and Critical Step

Missouri’s CNA skills test is given by D&S Diversified Technologies (Headmaster). Below: the test format, every skill on the list, and one skill in full.

How it is scored: Pass 100% of assigned tasks: on each task, miss no key (bold) steps and score 80% or higher on the non-key steps.

Hand hygiene: Every task includes scored hand hygiene. The first task is always one of four mandatory tasks that end with soap-and-water hand washing (no re-contamination is the key step); other tasks use hand-sanitizer hand hygiene at the start and end.

One skill in full: Abbreviated Bed Bath: Whole Face and One Arm, Hand, and Underarm

  1. Knock on the door.
  2. Introduce yourself to the resident.
  3. Clean your hands with hand sanitizer: cover every surface of both hands and rub until completely dry.
  4. Explain the procedure to the resident.
  5. Pull the privacy curtain.
  6. Fill a basin with warm water.
  7. Raise the bed.
  8. Cover the resident with a bath blanket.
  9. Fan-fold the bed linens to at least the waist, or move them to the other side.
  10. Put on gloves.
  11. Take off the gown without exposing the resident.
  12. Put the soiled gown in the designated laundry hamper.
  13. Wash the face WITHOUT SOAP.
  14. Pat the face dry.
  15. Put a towel under one arm, exposing only that arm.
  16. Wash the arm, hand, and underarm with soap and water.
  17. Rinse the arm, hand, and underarm.
  18. Pat the arm, hand, and underarm dry.
  19. Help the resident put on a clean gown.
  20. Empty, rinse, dry, and put away the equipment.
  21. Put soiled linen in the designated laundry hamper.
  22. Remove gloves inside out and discard them in the designated container.
  23. Clean your hands with hand sanitizer: cover every surface of both hands and rub until completely dry.
  24. Lower the bed.
  25. Place the call light or signal device within easy reach of the resident.
  26. Maintain respectful, courteous interaction with the resident throughout.
