Connecticut LPN License: Lookup, Renewal, CE, and Fees

Connecticut has belonged to the Nurse Licensure Compact since October 1, 2025. An LPN who makes Connecticut a primary state of residence can hold a multistate license and practice across compact states, provided the nurse holds NCLEX-PN, graduated from a board-approved program, has no encumbrance or disqualifying conviction, and passes a state and federal fingerprint background check; conversion is handled online in the eLicense account. An LPN from outside the compact, or who does not qualify for multistate status, applies by endorsement instead.

Endorsement applicants apply online for $150 and submit an official transcript, a Verification of Theory and Clinical Instruction Form from their nursing program, a Work Experience Verification Form from their current or most recent employer, and Nursys or paper verification of every LPN license they have ever held. Connecticut does not require a separate jurisprudence exam. Canadian-trained LPNs may endorse using CPNRE or CNATS results, with TOEFL if the exam was taken in French. A temporary permit is available while the application is pending.

Connecticut requires completion of a practical nursing program with at least 1,500 hours of theory and clinical instruction over at least ten months, with half of that contact time in supervised direct client care and observational experience. Graduates of shorter programs may make up the difference with work experience as a licensed practical nurse. The school sends the official transcript directly to the board, and candidates must pass the NCLEX-PN exam; Connecticut does not require a separate jurisprudence exam.
