Free CNA training in Pennsylvania

Under federal rule 42 CFR 483.152(c), a nurse aide who is employed by, or has a job offer from, a nursing facility on the day training begins cannot be charged for any part of the training and competency evaluation program, including textbooks. An aide who is hired by a facility within 12 months of completing a program is entitled to reimbursement of the cost, which the state must provide for on a pro rata basis while the aide works as a nurse aide. In Pennsylvania, 108 of the 182 approved programs are run by nursing facilities or care centers, judging by the listed type or program name.

LTC-employed trainees cannot be charged; self-payers hired by an LTC facility within 12 months get pro-rata reimbursement (half after 130 worked hours, rest after another 130).
