Delaware LPN License: Lookup, Renewal, CE, and Fees

Delaware belongs to the Nurse Licensure Compact, effective January 19, 2018, which means an LPN who holds a multistate license from another compact state can practice in Delaware under that license without applying separately, as long as Delaware is not the nurse's primary state of residence. An LPN who does not qualify for a multistate license must apply for a Delaware license by endorsement; nurses living in another compact state must apply through their home state rather than through Delaware.

Endorsement applicants apply through DELPROS; the board verifies the license through Nursys and requires a State of Delaware and FBI background check via IdentoGO. Eligibility can be shown by graduating within 24 months, 400 practice hours in the past 2 years, 1,000 hours in the past 5 years, or a board-approved refresher course; those relying on practice hours also need 24 CE hours from the past 2 years. Delaware offers a temporary permit, and the board does not name a separate jurisprudence or English-language exam.

Delaware requires LPN candidates to graduate from a board-approved practical nursing program that includes at least 200 hours of clinical experience. The school must send an official transcript directly to the board, and candidates educated outside the United States need a CES report from TruMerit (CGFNS). Applicants must apply to take the NCLEX-PN within 5 years of graduation. The board's examination page does not name a separate Delaware jurisprudence exam.
